The bulk updater worked smoothly for a good number of images, but then it got stuck. Bummer.<\/p><p><strong>Two scenarios are possible:<\/strong><\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Bulk Updater keeps on updating the attributes of the same image over and over.<\/li>\n\n<li>The Bulk Updater doesn&#8217;t progress and simply stopped. <\/li><\/ol><p>Let&#8217;s look at the possible causes and solutions. <\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"object-cache\">1. The Bulk Updater keeps on updating the attributes of the same image over and over.<\/h2><p>If this is an issue that you are facing, check with your sever settings to see if object caching is enabled. If so, please <strong>disable object caching until the bulk updater is complete<\/strong>.<\/p><p>Once the bulk updater has done it&#8217;s job, you can enable object caching again.<\/p><p>Known environments with this issue:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>WP Engine hosting. <\/li>\n\n<li>LiteSpeed Object Cache in LiteSpeed Cache plugin.<\/li><\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How To Disable Object Caching<\/h3><p>The steps to disable object caching varies from one web host to another.<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>WP Engine<\/strong> has the option to disable object caching in the account admin (<code>WP Engine admin<\/code> &gt; <code>your website<\/code> &gt; <code>Utilities<\/code> &gt; <code>Cache Options<\/code>).<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>LiteSpeed<\/strong> Cache plugin has a setting for object cache in <code>LiteSpeed Cache<\/code> &gt; <code>Cache<\/code> &gt; <code>Object<\/code> tab.<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>Cloudways<\/strong> Object Cache Pro plugin can be disabled using the instructions <a href=\"https:\/\/support.cloudways.com\/en\/articles\/5723061-speed-up-your-wordpress-application-using-object-cache-pro#h_e7b7e85e39\">available in this doc<\/a>. <\/li><\/ul><p>For other hosts or plugins, you might have to contact their support and ask them to disable it and later enable it for you.<\/p><p>Please note that object caching is not the same thing as page caching (offered by plugins like <a href=\"https:\/\/millionclues.com\/wprocket\">WP Rocket<\/a>, Super Cache, W3 Total Cache and the like), although some page caching plugins do include object caching as a feature. Page caching is NOT a probable cause for this issue. <\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"bulk-updater-stuck\">2. The Bulk Updater doesn&#8217;t progress and simply stopped.<\/h2><p>The reason why the Bulk Updater is stuck might be because the operation it was trying to do timed out. The server has a predefined time for how low long it will allocate it&#8217;s resources for a specific task and once the time is up, the server kills the process. <\/p><p>The server running out of resources could also be a reason. Typically if an image is used on too many posts or products and when the Bulk Updater tries to update them, this could happen. <\/p><p><strong>Solution 1:<\/strong> Most of the time <strong>trying a bit later resolves the issue<\/strong>. Remember to refresh the page before trying again. The Bulk Updater remembers it&#8217;s progress, so you can continue where you left off. <\/p><p>Alternatively, you can try running the Bulk Updater when traffic on the website is low. <\/p><p>Typically staging servers have lower resources than production and if you face this issue on staging it might not happen on your production server. <\/p><p><strong>Solution 2:<\/strong> <strong>Skip the current image using the <code>Skip Image<\/code> button<\/strong>.
